Alocasia 'Platinum' is a silver-toned Alocasia with cool grey-green leaves and darker veins. The pale blade surface has a metallic cast, with the main veins standing out against the lighter tissue.
Alocasia 'Platinum' is one of the silver-toned plants in the Bisma trade group, alongside names such as Bisma Silver and Bisma Mahap. The group is associated with West Kalimantan, Indonesia, and is grown for cool grey-green to silver leaves.
Pale Alocasia leaves scorch and spot sooner than dark green foliage when sun is too strong, fertiliser is too concentrated or the mix stays wet around the roots. Bright softened light protects the pale surface from scorch, while a warm airy mix keeps water from sitting around the rhizome and rotting roots.
Alocasia 'Platinum' contains irritating calcium oxalate crystals. If plant tissue is ingested, it can irritate the mouth, tongue and throat. Keep the plant away from pets and children, and avoid contact with sap when trimming damaged leaves.
Alocasia is a New Latin name in the aroid family, formed in relation to Colocasia. Platinum refers to the cool metallic cast of the leaves.
Choose Alocasia 'Platinum' for cool grey-green leaves, darker veins and a compact silver-toned shape with a bright, metallic finish.
