‘Balloon Heart’ has thick dark-green leaves with full rounded sides and inflated rear lobes. A clear notch separates the two lower curves, while pale veins spread across a smooth to lightly quilted surface. Purple colouring may remain visible on the reverse.
Early leaves are lighter, narrower and more pointed. Later blades gain width through the lower half, and the rear lobes become rounder until the whole leaf resembles a broad heart. The surface also becomes firmer as it matures. This compact to medium Alocasia changes mainly through those growing proportions, with each later leaf looking fuller and more strongly rounded.
