Cool mint and pale-green washes spread across the dark, raised foliage of 'Dragon Scale'. The colour is softer and more clouded than white albo variegation, with patterns ranging from fine speckles to broader pale areas.
A compact upright habit holds a small number of substantial leaves. Each new blade opens tender and pale before its colour, firmness and sculpted relief become clearer.
The foliage combines mint, pale green, cream and darker green in soft washes, clouding, fine marbling, speckles and occasional larger pale areas. Thick, shield-like blades have a peltate attachment and bullate panels divided by a dark raised framework. Pale sections have less chlorophyll and create the softer mint contrast, while greener areas do more of the photosynthesis. The species reaches approximately 25–30 cm, with blades around 10–18 × 7–12 cm, although cultivated plants vary. Mint Variegata is cooler and softer in colour than Albo-Variegata while retaining the same raised structure.
Alocasia baginda is a small Bornean Alocasia associated with eastern Kalimantan and wet tropical conditions. It belongs to the Araceae family. The name baginda is an Indonesian royal or honorific form of address.
Mint-variegated Dragon Scale Alocasia contains irritating calcium oxalate crystals, and its tissue should not be eaten. Keep it away from pets and young children. Gloves are useful when handling sap, roots, corms or cut leaf bases.
