Aeschynanthus radicans 'Bolero Bicolour' is a variegated lipstick plant with trailing stems and green leaves marked with pale cream to yellow tones. As the stems lengthen, the pale leaf margins and streaks show clearly along the cascade.
Mature plants can produce red tubular flowers under warm, bright filtered conditions. The roots need an airy, fast-draining substrate that matches the epiphytic and lithophytic habit of Aeschynanthus radicans.
Aeschynanthus radicans grows naturally as an epiphyte or lithophyte in wet tropical parts of Southeast Asia and Malesia. Its trailing, rooting stems need oxygen around the roots and quick drainage after watering.
'Bolero Bicolour' carries pale variegation on trailing stems that lengthen from the pot edge. Individual leaves can vary in pattern, and repeated all-green shoots can be trimmed if they start to take over the plant.
Lipstick plants are generally regarded as non-toxic houseplants. Keep Aeschynanthus radicans 'Bolero Bicolour' away from pets that chew foliage or pull trailing stems.
Aeschynanthus is usually explained from Greek roots linked to blush or shame and flower, referring to the red flowers common in the genus. The species epithet radicans means rooting, matching the rooting stem habit of the species.
Aeschynanthus radicans 'Bolero Bicolour' adds pale variegation to trailing lipstick-plant stems with red flowers possible on mature growth.
