The pattern on Aeschynanthus longicaulis changes as the stems move. Upright-facing leaves show pale, branching marks over dark green, while turned or hanging leaves expose mottled red-purple undersides. Because the stems are long and flexible, the plant naturally presents both surfaces at once.
The foliage gives this species ornamental interest throughout the year, even without flowers. As the shoots lengthen and begin to hang, the pattern remains visible well beyond the centre of the pot.
