Tillandsia harrisii forms a pale silver rosette of broad-based leaves that narrow to fine points. A dense coat of white scales gives the surface a softly frosted, almost velvety appearance. The blades curve gently outward and remain thicker and more substantial than the wiry foliage of Tillandsia caerulea or T. usneoides.
At first it resembles a compact silver star. Mature rosettes gain width and a rounded, many-layered shape, often reaching around 20 cm across. The older outer leaves arch farther while the centre stays upright and tightly packed. Flowering adds a tall red to orange spike and violet blossoms above the cool-toned foliage. Basal offsets can later create a group of overlapping silver rosettes in several sizes.
