Dracaena trifasciata 'Golden Hahnii' grows as a low rosette instead of a tall fan. The short, broad leaves overlap in layers, with green centres and yellow edges. New rosettes form around the parent plant and widen the cluster.
Because the leaves sit tightly together, watering around the rosette is safer than pouring into the centre. This keeps the centre dry and lets the pot drain properly.
Dracaena trifasciata 'Golden Hahnii' is a compact cultivated form of Dracaena trifasciata, also known under the older name Sansevieria trifasciata 'Golden Hahnii'. The species comes from southern Nigeria across parts of Central Africa to Tanzania and grows in seasonally dry tropical conditions. Its thick leaves and rhizome store water, so the mix should dry between waterings. “Golden” refers to the yellow leaf edges.
Place Dracaena trifasciata 'Golden Hahnii' out of reach of pets and small children. If the leaves are nibbled, they can irritate the stomach.
