Philodendron ernestii is a rare climbing species grown mainly for its strongly textured leaves, which develop deep grooves and ridges rather than depending on colour or variegation for effect. It behaves as a true climber and gains much more presence once attached to a moss pole or trellis, where the leaves become larger and more structured than they do on unsupported stems.
Bright, filtered light, watering after the top layer has dried slightly, and a loose mix with bark, perlite, and sphagnum help it keep moving without wet, compact roots. It prefers temperatures around 18–28 °C and humidity above about 60%, though steady care matters more than perfection. The species is uncommon in cultivation but not difficult once established.
Like other philodendrons, it is toxic if ingested and should be kept away from pets and children.
