Warm new leaves may open in caramel, amber, bronze, chocolate-brown, brown-red, or deep pink, with the exact shade varying with each new leaf. The thick, glossy blades harden towards olive and green, often leaving several colour stages visible together. Elongated leaves gather around a short central stem to form a broad, upright crown. Juvenile leaves may have a simple outline; later foliage may have shallow lobes, rounded teeth or saw-toothed edges.
