Long, many-branched stems give Pfeiffera boliviana a loose hanging shape as it matures. The main shoots can be somewhat four-angled near the base, while the later segments are flattened, thin-fleshed, and irregularly notched, with small woolly areoles along the margins.
Pfeiffera boliviana combines succulent cactus stems with a Bolivian dry-shrubland background. In cultivation, that points to bright filtered light, an open mineral-aerated substrate, and a watering rhythm that supports active stems while keeping oxygen around the roots.
Pfeiffera boliviana is native to Bolivia and grows primarily in desert or dry shrubland habitat. Its combination of succulent stems and narrow, branching growth points to bright filtered conditions, airflow, and a root zone that drains before it turns stagnant.
The flattened stem segments carry photosynthetic tissue, so firmness, colour, and clean areoles are the best visual checks. A hanging pot lets the stems lengthen naturally, while an airy mix keeps moisture available for active growth and gives the roots enough oxygen.
The main safety concern with Pfeiffera boliviana is mechanical irritation from small areoles and bristles. Keep it away from pets and children that may chew or pull the stems, and wear gloves when pruning dense growth.
Pfeiffera boliviana belongs to Cactaceae. The genus Pfeiffera honours Ludwig Karl Georg Pfeiffer, a German physician, botanist, and conchologist. The species epithet boliviana refers to Bolivia, the native range recorded for the species; older synonym names include Rhipsalis boliviana and Lepismium bolivianum.
Pfeiffera boliviana develops into a loose hanging cactus with flattened green stems, pale flowers and mature branching.
