Monstera 'Esqueleto' is a robust climbing Monstera with large green leaves and numerous oval to irregular perforations across the blade. Mature foliage can look open and skeletal because the holes are often abundant, with smaller openings near the midrib and larger openings toward the outer blade.
Rooted stems can climb on a stable pole, plank, or panel, where aerial roots hold the vine upright and larger leaves stay spaced around the support.
Monstera 'Esqueleto' has broad adult leaves, a thickening vine, and a mature hole pattern built from many oval to irregular perforations. Larger perforated foliage appears on well-rooted, attached stems with thicker petioles and broader blades.
The mature leaves can become much larger than the juvenile foliage. Petioles, stem thickness, root attachment, and support all influence how quickly the plant moves from smaller leaves into its larger, highly perforated adult growth.
Monstera 'Esqueleto' is toxic if chewed. The leaves and stems contain calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth, throat, and digestive tract of pets and people.
The name 'Esqueleto' means “skeleton” in Spanish and refers to the open pattern of the mature leaves. Monstera is an Araceae genus native to tropical America, with many species developing different juvenile and adult leaf forms as they climb.
On a warm, well-rooted stem, Monstera 'Esqueleto' can produce broad leaves with large open perforations.
