Monstera obliqua is native from Costa Rica through northern and tropical South America and Trinidad, including Suriname. It grows as a slender climber or creeper in wet tropical habitat.

“Suriname” serves as a horticultural locality label for this cultivated form, with its precise wild-population provenance remaining undocumented. Highly perforated foliage is one expression within variable M. obliqua, and leaf form can vary among plants associated with Suriname.

Keep the root zone evenly moist without allowing prolonged saturation. Let only the upper zone begin to dry before watering again, and use an airy mix that can hold some moisture without becoming dense or stagnant.

• Edges crisp or the whole leaf loses firmness quickly: thin tissue reacts fast to dry roots, hot air or low humidity.
