‘Red Coral’ is an epiphytic cactus whose long green stems branch and become flattened and leaf-like toward their ends. Shallow scallops mark the margins, and the outer segments hang from firmer, more heavily branched growth at the centre. The green tissue can also flush through red, burgundy or purple rather than holding one fixed colour.
Fresh branches extend from the scalloped outer sections, increasing the layered fall of flattened growth while the older central stems provide firm support. The combination of narrow cascading growth, flattened tips and changing colour distinguishes this plant from cylindrical mistletoe cacti.
Small pale flowers can open along the edges of mature segments, followed by rounded translucent berries.
