Hoya sp. Loei Province is a slow-growing epiphytic vine native to the forest canopies of Loei, Thailand. It stands out with slender olive-green leaves decorated in irregular silver splashes, giving it a delicate shimmer under bright light. Each leaf has a leathery, slightly arched form – both sculptural and durable. When mature, this species forms compact umbels of fuzzy porcelain-white blooms, each topped with a warm orange-pink corona. The flowers often produce nectar, and in the right conditions, may release a soft, sweet fragrance – especially at dusk.
This species originates in the Loei Province of northeastern Thailand – an upland region with warm, humid forests and a long rainy season. In its natural habitat, it grows epiphytically on tree trunks and branches, sheltered from direct sun but exposed to strong airflow and moisture. Indoors, it grows slowly and compactly, reaching 1 – 1.5 m over time. It doesn’t self-cling, but you can gently train it along a trellis or let it trail naturally from baskets. With patience and stable care, it will reward you with nectar-rich blooms multiple times per year.
Knowing where this hoya comes from is the key to growing it successfully. Mimic Loei’s warm, shady forest canopies with filtered light, mild humidity, and loose substrate. Avoid overwatering and let the roots breathe – this is a slow but steady grower that rewards patience with long-lived foliage and repeated blooming from the same flower spurs.
This plant remains scientifically undescribed and is known by its collection origin – Loei Province, Thailand. It shares traits with members of the Acanthostemma section, including fuzzy flowers and splashy foliage, but its formal classification is still pending. The “sp.” in its name simply means it's a still-unnamed species.
Hoya sp. Loei blooms repeatedly from the same peduncles, so cutting them off will delay future flowers. These umbels may also drip nectar if the plant is thriving – so don’t be alarmed by sticky droplets!
