Hoya sp. Gayo (Clone 1) is a rare, undescribed form collected from the Gayo Highlands in Aceh, northern Sumatra. Unlike other clones, Clone 1 features long, narrow-oval leaves up to 15 cm long with a leathery texture, bold venation, and occasional silver mottling. In bright, filtered light, the leaf edges often show muted purple or bronze tones, adding an elegant color shift. This slow, steady grower is perfect for collectors seeking something refined and resilient.
Its growth habit is hemiepiphytic: vines trail or climb depending on support. Mature plants produce buff-pink, reflexed blooms in neat umbels, sometimes releasing nectar droplets. It’s a plant that rewards patient care with understated beauty.
This Hoya originates from high-elevation, mossy forests in the Gayo Highlands. Conditions include mild temperatures (18 – 30 °C), consistent humidity, filtered light, and strong airflow. Indoors, expect vines to reach 1.5 m over time. Its firm leaves store some water but avoid prolonged dryness or soggy conditions for best health.
Clone 1 grows slowly but steadily under stable conditions. Many growers notice nectar drops on flowers, adding extra appeal. Because it’s hemiepiphytic, the plant prefers breathable conditions and light potting. Mounting on cork or using a terracotta pot enhances root health and airflow.
Hoya sp. Gayo (Clone 1) remains undescribed in official literature. Its name refers to the Gayo Highlands in Aceh, where it was collected. Based on morphology, it may be related to the caudata or coronaria groups, but this is unconfirmed.
