Hoya 'Chouke' is a compact epiphytic hybrid born from an open pollination between Hoya carnosa R.Br. (1813) and Hoya serpens Hook.f. (1883). It was introduced in 1995 by Belgian grower Emilio Begine, who named it in honor of his wife. Sharing its origin with the better-known 'Mathilde', 'Chouke' offers a more vigorous trailing habit and larger, less speckled leaves. With its unique parentage and romantic naming story, it's a collector-worthy addition that brings charm and subtle fragrance to any indoor space.
The genus Hoya honors English gardener Thomas Hoy (1750 – 1822), known for cultivating tropical species. The name 'Chouke' was chosen by Belgian Hoya breeder Emilio Begine in tribute to his wife, adding a personal touch to an already rare hybrid.
With its soft trailing vines, fragrant pastel flowers, and unique origin story, Hoya 'Chouke' is more than just a plant – it's a conversation piece. Add it to your indoor jungle for a hybrid that combines beauty, history, and botanical charm.
