Heptapleurum arboricola 'Charlotte' has glossy green umbrella leaves with pale cream-to-yellow variegation. The leaflets grow in radial clusters on long petioles, and the markings vary naturally from leaf to leaf. Some leaves are lightly marked; others carry clearer pale sections.
'Charlotte' keeps the compact woody structure of a dwarf umbrella plant. It stays more shrub-like than 'Amate', and long stems can be shortened when they start to stretch. Bright indirect light keeps the stems firmer, while harsh sun can burn the pale parts of the leaves.
Heptapleurum arboricola is native to Hainan and Taiwan, where it grows in humid forest and stream-bank habitats. The roots receive moisture but also air, so a dense wet potting mix can stress the plant indoors.
The pale leaf sections need bright indirect light to stay clear. Direct sun through glass can scorch them faster than the green parts.
Chewed leaves can irritate the mouth and throat. Keep 'Charlotte' out of reach of pets that nibble plants, and avoid getting fresh sap on sensitive skin after cutting stems.
