Dischidia ruscifolia Variegata is a pale-edged form of a species native to the Philippines. “Variegata” describes the cultivated leaf pattern. The species was named in the nineteenth century and has also appeared under the older name Hoya ruscifolia.

Wild D. ruscifolia spreads over trees in wet tropical vegetation. Fine stems root into bark, moss and trapped debris, where frequent rain is followed by drainage and fresh air around the branches. Forest cover softens the overhead light. The variegated form keeps this fine-stemmed epiphytic growth.
