Cyrtosperma sp. Papua is a striking and rarely seen aroid, prized for its unusual leaf colouration and bold growth habit. This rhizomatous herb reaches around 1 m in height, producing sagittate leaf blades in fresh green, delicately patterned with pink spot variegation. Its petioles are erect and relatively short–about half the length of the blade–giving the foliage a strong architectural stance. The leaf shape is unique: posterior lobes held upright while the anterior lobe points obliquely downward, triangular and shorter than the rest, adding elegance and character to the display.
The genus Cyrtosperma occurs across tropical Asia and the Pacific, thriving in wet, humid lowland areas. The Papua form stands out for its rare pink variegation, a trait not commonly seen in the group. In the wild, these plants grow in shaded, moist soils, conditions that should be mirrored in cultivation to achieve the best foliage display.
This Cyrtosperma develops steadily from rhizomes and produces its distinctive arrow-shaped foliage throughout the year in warm, humid conditions. Its structural form makes it ideal as a statement plant in large pots, terrarium-style setups, or tropical collections.
The genus name Cyrtosperma comes from the Greek words for “curved” (cyrto) and “seed” (sperma), likely in reference to the shape of the seeds. This Papua form showcases the ornamental diversity within the genus.
With its unusual pink-spotted foliage and architectural leaf shape, Cyrtosperma sp. Papua is a rare find for aroid collectors. Order today and bring this unique Sumatran beauty into your plant display.
