Cissus rotundifolia is a rounded-leaf Cissus with glossy, fleshy green leaves and a climbing or trailing habit. The firm, waxy leaf surface catches light along the stems, while tendrils help the vine grip a trellis or stake as it lengthens.
In a pot, it can be trained upward on a trellis or allowed to trail from a raised position. The compact leaf shape, steady green colour and thicker texture give the plant a firm vine outline.
Cissus rotundifolia belongs to Vitaceae and is native across parts of eastern and southern Africa, the Mascarenes, and the Arabian Peninsula. The species is associated with seasonally dry tropical regions, and its thicker leaves reflect a growth style that tolerates moderate drying between waterings.
Botanical descriptions note angled stems, forked tendrils, and broadly ovate to nearly circular leaves with toothed margins. Small green flowers and reddish fruits can occur on mature plants, while indoor specimens are kept for rounded leaves and stem growth.
The thicker leaf texture handles a moderate dry-down cycle better than constant moisture. Bright filtered light, regular trimming and a moderate dry-down cycle keep the stems leafy from the base.
Prune long shoots for a denser pot, guide active stems onto a trellis, or let selected stems trail from a higher shelf.
Keep the vine away from pets and children that chew plants, and treat ingestion with caution if symptoms develop.
Cissus rotundifolia Lam. is an accepted species in Vitaceae. Cissus is based on Greek kissos, an ivy reference. The epithet rotundifolia means round-leaved, referring to the plant’s broad, rounded leaf blades.
Cissus rotundifolia forms rounded green leaves and forked tendrils on stems that can climb, trail or be pruned into a denser pot.
