Anthurium villenaorum x luxurians is a cultivated hybrid with pale veins and leaves that become thicker and more textured with age. The Peruvian villenaorum parent gives the hybrid velvet foliage and pale veins. Colombian luxurians adds raised texture, thicker leaves and firmer petioles.
In a pot, it usually stays compact and grows from a central crown. Young leaves can look smoother at first, then develop stronger texture and clearer venation after they harden.
Anthurium villenaorum contributes dark velvet foliage, pale venation and sometimes angular-looking petioles. Anthurium luxurians contributes thicker leaves, raised texture, compact growth and firmer petioles.
Mature plants may flower with the usual Anthurium spathe and spadix. Once established, new leaves usually show clearer veins and stronger texture.
Later leaves usually show stronger texture once the plant is well rooted.
Place Anthurium villenaorum x luxurians where pets and children cannot reach it. The plant contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause mouth and throat irritation if plant material is eaten. Wash hands after pruning, repotting or handling damaged tissue.
The name joins the two parent species. Villenaorum refers to the Villena family, while luxurians refers to lush growth. Anthurium refers to the spadix.
