New foliage often opens bronze-green, then darkens as the pale veins and silver wash become clearer across the velvet surface. Mature blades become wider and nearly circular, reaching their strongest contrast at around 45 cm tall and wide. The plant grows slowly and may hold only a small number of leaves, but older foliage remains substantial, dark and clearly marked. Silver coverage can differ slightly between individual plants.
Rounded velvet leaves retain the closed lower edge of forgetii, while broad silver veins cover much more of the surface. Young growth may open bronze or reddish before becoming deep green with a bright, almost plated vein pattern.
