A clear pale midline gives Anoectochilus albolineatus ‘White Center’ its strongest leaf feature. Fine silver side veins branch from that centre line into the darker velvet surface, creating a bright, defined pattern on low creeping growth.
The plant stays close to the substrate, with new leaves forming along short creeping stems. It is a warm, humid indoor orchid for shaded shelves, plant cabinets and open terrariums, where the pale central marking can be viewed from above without exposing the foliage to harsh light.
‘White Center’ follows the low terrestrial growth pattern of Anoectochilus albolineatus. The visible leaf feature is the strong central pale line, while the plant keeps the same creeping jewel-orchid habit and shallow root zone.
The rhizome should sit near the surface so new shoots can move across the substrate. A shallow, moisture-retentive but airy mix gives the creeping stems space while reducing the risk of a cold, wet root layer.
This jewel orchid is considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. Its shallow pot and soft leaves can be damaged easily, so place it away from pets that dig or chew.
The species behind this plant is Anoectochilus albolineatus C.S.P.Parish & Rchb.f., first published in Transactions of the Linnean Society of London in 1874. Anoectochilus refers to the flower’s open lip structure, while albolineatus means white-lined. In this form, the pale lining appears as a strong white midrib with finer silver side veining.
