Deep purple to near-black leaf stalks define Alocasia ‘Yucatan Princess’. They carry broad green leaves with a lightly puckered surface, and mature plants can take up significant space indoors.
As the petioles lengthen and the leaf mass increases, this Alocasia needs a heavy, stable pot. Bright filtered light, a coarse fertile mix and steady watering help it carry larger leaves while excess water drains away from the roots.
Alocasia ‘Yucatan Princess’ contains irritating tissue and is toxic if eaten. Keep it away from pets and children, and wash your hands after cutting older stems or damaged leaves.
Alocasia ‘Yucatan Princess’ is an undescribed cultivated Alocasia, and its exact status as a species or hybrid remains uncertain. It is attributed to Brian Williams of Brian’s Botanicals and entered tissue culture with Agristarts around 2011–2012. It has sometimes been sold under Alocasia sarawakensis, but is now treated separately.
