Ninja Variegata has dark, textured foliage with irregular cream to light green marbling. The amount of pale pattern can change from one new leaf to the next.
New petioles rise close together from a short base, so the plant stays compact and upright. Leaves are thicker and slightly more textured than standard Black Velvet types. Some plants also show a faint doubled vein near the edge.
It belongs to the compact Alocasia reginula group, a dark-leaved tropical Alocasia linked to Borneo.
Flowering is uncommon indoors and usually modest, with a small spathe and spadix.
The species epithet reginula means “little queen”, fitting the plant’s small, upright habit.
Darker areas carry most of the plant’s energy, while pale sections are more sensitive.
Avoid hard wiping. The surface can be damaged easily. Place it where pets and small children cannot reach the leaves or fallen cuttings.
