Black Velvet Gold keeps the small, dark-leaved structure of Alocasia reginula, with yellow to gold-green markings across the matte leaves. Some leaves show fine speckling, while others develop broader patches. The pattern shifts naturally from leaf to leaf.
A small corm sends up short petioles, keeping the plant low and upright. Leaves are thick and matte, with pale veins still visible beneath the variegation.
It belongs to the Alocasia reginula group, a small tropical Alocasia linked to Borneo.
Flowering is possible indoors; blooms are small spathes and spadices.
The name reginula means “little queen”, fitting the compact habit and dark leaf texture.
Gold areas contain less chlorophyll than darker sections, so leaves with more green tend to remain functional longer.
Handle leaves carefully. The surface shows marks easily, especially on lighter areas. Keep this Alocasia away from pets and small children, and wash hands after pruning or removing damaged leaves.
