The ancestry of Alocasia ‘Polly’ Variegata Aurea includes Alocasia sanderiana from shaded ravines on Mindanao and Alocasia longiloba from Southeast Asian forest floors, boulders and ravines. The hybrid line is Alocasia sanderiana × Alocasia longiloba ‘Watsoniana’. Sanderiana commemorates Henry Sander; longiloba means “long-lobed”; ‘Watsoniana’ commemorates Watson.
