Alocasia 'Metalhead' is a cultivated Alocasia with dark glossy leaves and deep purple undersides. The plant grows upright on firm petioles, so the colour contrast is visible as leaves tilt above the pot.
The dark upper surface and coloured reverse become clearer as new leaves harden. Fresh growth can look softer at first, then firms into a thicker Alocasia blade with a smoother sheen.
Alocasia 'Metalhead' grows from a fleshy Alocasia base and produces leaves on separate petioles. Its dark leaf surface can show dust quickly, and cleaning the leaves also makes pest checks easier.
The root system needs air as much as moisture. A loose, mineral-rich aroid mix keeps the root zone open while still holding enough water for the leaves.
Alocasia 'Metalhead' is toxic if chewed. It contains irritating calcium oxalate crystals, so keep it away from pets and children and avoid contact with sap from cut or damaged tissue.
Raised on firm petioles, Alocasia 'Metalhead' shows dark glossy upper surfaces and purple leaf reverses as the foliage matures.
