‘Mayan Mask’ produces enormous glossy green leaves with lighter ribs, heavily ruffled edges and a saturated purple reverse. The blades rise high above the base, and every lifted or arching edge reveals the strong colour underneath.
The scale changes dramatically with age. A modest bright-green young plant can exceed 2 m indoors and eventually carry leaves approaching 1 m, with much greater width, firmness and movement around the margins. Brian Williams crossed Alocasia odora with ‘Amazonica’ in 2008 and selected this large seedling for introduction two years later.
