Alocasia macrorrhizos 'Flying Squid' is grown for unusual narrow leaf-like appendages and long petioles that give the plant a tentacled shape. The stem and blade structure forms an open outline around the base. New shoots can rise from the crown, with narrow appendages stretching around the lower growth. Its unusual shape stays recognisable even when individual blades remain slim. Keep the potting mix loose and reduce watering when growth slows. The low shoots are easy for pets to reach, and swallowed foliage may irritate the mouth or throat.
