Alocasia longiloba is native from southern China and mainland Southeast Asia to western and central Malesia, and it grows primarily in wet tropical conditions. Plants can range from small to robust, around 40–150 cm tall. Petioles can reach around 30–120 cm, and blades are often 27–65 cm long, sometimes larger in strong mature plants. Indoors, size depends heavily on root warmth, light, pot volume and the particular longiloba form being grown.

Alocasia longiloba leaves can be hastate, sagittate, triangular or more shield-like, with long posterior lobes and a pointed anterior lobe. Many forms carry pale main veins and a narrow pale border close to the veins, giving the leaf a crisp, drawn outline.
