Alocasia ‘Jacklyn’ is a cultivated form of Alocasia tandurusa Prameswara and A. Hay (2023), native to Sulawesi’s humid lower-montane forests. Deeply pinnatifid, antler-shaped blades display dark venation across a fine velvety surface, sometimes tinged purple beneath. Thick, mottled petioles rise from a creeping rhizome, creating an architectural silhouette prized by collectors. Member of the Araceae (aroid) family.
Endemic to northern Sulawesi, Indonesia, where it grows between 500 – 1000 m in constantly warm (≈18 – 31 °C), humid forest understory. Adapted to filtered light, porous soil, and high air moisture – the same conditions that support thriving growth indoors.
This Alocasia maintains a compact, upright habit with slow but steady leaf production. Each new leaf emerges softer and lighter before deepening in tone and texture. With age, lobes become more pronounced and petiole mottling intensifies, especially under stable light and humidity.
Visual cue: Firm, velvety leaves with crisp venation signal perfect balance; dullness or limpness usually means low light or excess water.
Its sculptural foliage and mottled stems make Alocasia ‘Jacklyn’ a centrepiece in curated plant displays. The species’ Sulawesi provenance adds rarity value, while its moderate size suits both display tables and mixed aroid collections. Propagated responsibly through rhizome division by Foliage Factory partner growers.
Contains calcium oxalate crystals; ingestion or sap contact may irritate mouth or skin. Keep away from pets and children and wash hands after handling.
Alocasia tandurusa (from Indonesian “tanduk rusa” – deer antlers) references the leaf shape. The horticultural name ‘Jacklyn’ was adopted in trade long before the species’ formal description in 2023, and remains the recognised cultivar epithet.
Ready to bring Alocasia ‘Jacklyn’ home? Despite its exotic look, it adapts easily once conditions stay consistent. Order now and enjoy a rare Sulawesi aroid with antler-like foliage and enduring collector appeal.
