Alocasia 'Bisma'
Alocasia ‘Bisma’ is a compact silver-green Alocasia with broad shield-like leaves and darker vein lines. It grows from a short rhizomatous base, with each leaf rising on its own petiole.
The blades can mature from pale green into grey-green or silvery tones, with an even to lightly textured surface. Older and newer leaves overlap as the plant matures.

West Kalimantan background
Alocasia ‘Bisma’ is a cultivated silver-green Alocasia associated with West Kalimantan, Indonesia. It is sold under the name ‘Bisma’, but this is not a formally described species.
Airy substrate for silver leaves
Alocasia ‘Bisma’ needs filtered light, warm roots and an airy mix. The mix should dry slightly between waterings instead of staying wet from top to bottom.
- Light: Give bright, softened light. Direct sun can mark the pale blade surface.
- Watering: Water deeply after the upper mix has dried slightly. Let the pot drain well so fresh air returns around the roots.
- Substrate: Use fine bark, coco fibre or chips, perlite, pumice and a small organic part. Old, compacted mix holds water against the roots for too long.
- Pot size: A snug pot moves moisture more evenly through the root ball. A pot that is too large leaves a wet outer ring of unused substrate.
- Temperature: Keep the plant above 18 °C. Cold wet substrate can stall new leaves and soften roots.
- Humidity: Higher humidity reduces dry edge marks while new leaves are still soft.
- Feeding: Feed lightly while the plant is producing leaves. If the silver leaves develop brown margins after feeding, reduce the strength and flush the mix.
- Repotting: Repot when roots fill the pot. Move up only slightly while the rhizome is still small.
Pale leaves and root checks
- Dull or yellowed leaves: Dull or yellowed leaves often come from weak light or roots sitting in old, wet substrate.
- Brown edge marks: Brown edge marks usually follow dry air, irregular watering or fertiliser that is too strong.
- Drooping petioles: Drooping petioles can mean the lower mix is still wet and cold around the roots.
- Pest speckling: Pale foliage shows mite and thrips damage quickly; inspect the underside of leaves and the petiole bases.
Alocasia safety at home
Alocasia ‘Bisma’ contains calcium oxalate crystals and should stay out of reach of pets and children.
A pot close to the root size keeps the plant compact and reduces wet unused mix around the roots.
