• Water and substrate: Let the upper third or so of the root ball dry before watering again, then wet the mix evenly and allow it to drain. A loose, moisture-buffering substrate helps prevent the clustered stem bases from sitting wet for too long.
• Light: Bright indirect light suits the heavily patterned leaves. Keep the cream sections out of hot direct sun, which can scorch before the greener parts show much damage.
• Temperature: Warm, stable conditions suit active growth; around 18–24 °C works well, with cold draughts and temperatures below about 15 °C best avoided.
• Feeding and repotting: Use a light feed while fresh leaves are developing. Repot once roots have filled the container, or separate a rooted basal shoot if the plant has formed a crowded multi-stem clump.

• Yellowing in wet mix: Several yellowing leaves together with a wet, heavy root ball suggest the roots are staying saturated. Let the mix dry further, confirm that the pot drains freely and inspect the roots only if decline continues; remove soft dark roots and replace dense wet substrate when decay is present.
• Sun damage on cream markings: Firm cream markings are part of the cultivar. New tan, crisp or bleached patches on the side receiving direct sun indicate damage. Move the plant back from the rays and judge the change by healthy new growth.
• Hidden pest feeding: Patterned leaves can hide early pest feeding. Fine pale stippling with webbing indicates spider mites, silvery scars with black specks indicate thrips, and cottony clusters, sometimes with sticky residue, indicate mealybugs. If you confirm spider mites, thrips or mealybugs, isolate the plant, rinse or wipe off visible pests and apply a treatment labelled for the confirmed pest to the leaf undersides, petiole bases and any occupied folds. Repeat it at the intervals stated on the label for the full course.
• Brown tips: Brown tips after repeated drying or heavy feeding will not turn green again. Re-establish more even watering and flush the substrate thoroughly with plain water if fertiliser salts are likely to have built up.
