Aglaonema rotundum has broadly ovate leaves measuring about 6–13.5 cm long and 5.8–10.6 cm wide. Their glossy dark-green upper surface is crossed by a pale to pink midrib and four to six main side veins. The entire underside is deep red, giving every thick leathery blade two distinctly coloured faces.
The stem runs along the substrate and turns upward only through its final 5–6 cm. Young foliage is smaller and softer; later leaves become broader, darker and more clearly veined while the plant stays low. Their natural tilt can reveal flashes of the red reverse beneath the green surface. Mature plants may produce a single inflorescence consisting of a forward-bent green spathe around a short club-shaped spadix.
