A tight rosette, thick triangular leaves and a cream-white centre band define Agave ‘Ouhi-Raijin’ Variegata. The leaves sit close together from the crown, with green outer margins, pale central colouring and small, firm teeth along the edges.
The pale centre has little chlorophyll, while the greener margins do more of the plant’s photosynthesis. Bright light keeps the rosette compact, and fast drainage stops the roots from sitting wet.
Agave ‘Ouhi-Raijin’ Variegata is a cultivated compact variegated agave selected for a small rosette and a pale central leaf band. It is grown for its tight crown, thick triangular leaves and clear contrast between the cream-white centre and green margins.
The leaves are thick, firm and held in a tight spiral from the crown. New leaves emerge from the centre as folded spears, then widen and harden as they settle into the rosette. Older leaves at the base may dry naturally as the plant matures.
In a pot, this agave stays compact and slow, adding leaves gradually from the centre. Its roots need oxygen around them, and the crown should sit above the substrate surface so the lower leaves stay dry and firm.
This agave has sharp marginal teeth and a pointed terminal spine. Place it away from walkways, children and pets, and wear gloves when repotting or removing offsets. Sap from damaged agave tissue may irritate sensitive skin, so wash hands and tools after handling cuts.
Agave belongs to the family Asparagaceae. The genus name Agave comes from Greek agauos, meaning “admirable” or “noble”.
