Agave potatorum f. compacta hort. is a dwarf cultivated form with a tight rosette, short broad leaves and pronounced marginal teeth. Its smaller scale brings the leaf pattern, bud imprints and spine detail close together, so the plant forms a dense, sharply defined rosette.
This compact agave grows slowly in a pot and keeps a low profile when light is strong and the root zone dries quickly. The leaves are firm, armed and built for dry watering cycles.
Agave potatorum f. compacta hort. develops as a tight rosette of thick leaves that overlap closely. Broad leaf bases and curved margins create a layered shape, while the teeth and terminal spines define the armed outline.
Agave potatorum is native from southern Puebla to west-central Veracruz and central Oaxaca in Mexico, where it grows in seasonally dry tropical conditions. In cultivation, this dwarf hort. form needs bright light, mineral drainage and full dry-down between waterings.
Agave potatorum f. compacta hort. has sharp teeth, a pointed terminal spine and irritating sap. Handle the rosette from below when repotting and keep it away from pets, children and narrow walkways.
The genus name Agave is commonly linked to the Greek word for noble or admirable. The species name potatorum means “of the drinkers,” a reference to traditional beverage associations within the wider Agave potatorum background.
