The short, broad leaves of Agave parrasana overlap tightly around the centre, creating the rounded shape behind the common name Cabbage Head Agave. Their wide bases sit so close together that the middle looks tightly closed and the outer leaves form compact layers.
A waxy grey-green to silvery blue-grey coating covers the leaves, crossed by pale marks from neighbouring growth. Reddish-brown teeth and sharp tips outline this dense structure. Older plants usually retain one central rosette, with only occasional young plants appearing at the base.
