Aeschynanthus radicans 'Caroline' is a green-leaved lipstick plant with trailing stems that can flower with red tubular blooms. Its glossy foliage forms an even cascade as the stems lengthen from the pot.
The roots need air and drainage, reflecting the epiphytic and lithophytic habit of Aeschynanthus radicans. Warmth, filtered light and partial drying between waterings keep the stems firm and the root zone oxygenated.
Aeschynanthus radicans is a wet-tropical epiphyte or lithophyte from parts of Southeast Asia and Malesia. Its rooting stems and glossy leaves develop best with airy substrate, warm roots and quick drainage.
'Caroline' carries clean green foliage on trailing stems, with red tubular flowers possible on mature growth. Flowering depends on maturity, light and stable care, so steady conditions matter more than heavy feeding.
Lipstick plants are generally considered non-toxic houseplants. Keep Aeschynanthus radicans 'Caroline' away from pets that chew foliage or pull trailing stems.
Aeschynanthus is usually explained from Greek roots linked to blush or shame and flower, referring to the red flowers common in the genus. The species epithet radicans means rooting, a direct reference to the rooting stem habit of the species.
