Adiantum raddianum 'Fritz-Lüthi' is a maidenhair fern with black wiry stems and soft, triangular green fronds. The overlapping leaf segments form a layered fan of small rounded to triangular leaflets as the fronds arch outward from the crown.
This fern needs consistent moisture and humidity. A full dry-out can collapse the fine fronds quickly, while saturated substrate can damage the roots and crown.
Adiantum raddianum 'Fritz-Lüthi' grows from a fern crown, sending up fine black stalks that carry delicate green fronds. Fresh growth is especially sensitive while unfolding, so moisture swings often show quickly as crisping or frond collapse.
Adiantum raddianum is native from Mexico to Tropical America and grows mainly in wet tropical habitats. Indoors, the cultivar keeps that moisture-dependent fern behaviour, with roots that need steady moisture and oxygen in the substrate.
Maidenhair ferns are generally considered non-toxic houseplants. Keep Adiantum raddianum 'Fritz-Lüthi' out of reach of pets that dig in pots or chew delicate fronds.
Adiantum comes from the Greek adiantos, meaning unwetted, a reference to how water can bead on fern foliage. The species name raddianum honours the Italian botanist Giuseppe Raddi.
Adiantum raddianum was described by C.Presl and published in Tentamen Pteridographiae in 1836.
Adiantum raddianum 'Fritz-Lüthi' develops black stems, fine fronds and the soft texture of a moisture-loving maidenhair fern.
