Alocasia 'Polly' is a compact Alocasia with thick, dark green leaves, bright vein definition and sharply scalloped margins. The leaves are more oval than those of 'Amazonica', so the plant stays compact in a pot.
This plant is a polyploid mutant discovered by Bill Rotolante in tissue-culture liners of Alocasia 'Amazonica' at Silver Krome Gardens. Its hybrid background traces through Alocasia 'Amazonica', whose parentage is Alocasia sanderiana × Alocasia longiloba 'Watsoniana'.
Alocasia 'Polly' contains irritating calcium oxalate crystals. If plant tissue is ingested, it can irritate the mouth, tongue and throat. Keep it away from pets and children, and wash your hands after pruning, dividing or handling damaged tissue.
Alocasia is a New Latin name formed in relation to Colocasia. 'Polly' is also seen as 'Poly' in cultivation.
Choose Alocasia 'Polly' for compact dark foliage, pale vein contrast and sharply scalloped leaves in a manageable pot size.
