Picea pungens "Super Blue" is a striking cultivar of Colorado Blue Spruce, known for its silvery-blue needles and tidy, conical form. With proper care, this long-lived conifer can be enjoyed for decades in the garden, on a terrace in a large container, or even brought indoors briefly during the festive season.
Outdoors it thrives in full sun or light shade, in fertile but well-drained soil. The tree adapts to containers if the pot is large enough to accommodate steady root growth. For best results, ensure good drainage and avoid waterlogging.
This spruce can be enjoyed as a living Christmas tree, but it should only be indoors for a short period. Limit the indoor stay to about 7 – 10 days, keep it well watered, and place it away from radiators or fireplaces. Extended time in a warm room interrupts its natural dormancy and weakens the plant.
Do not move the tree straight into freezing conditions after being indoors. A better option is to place it in a frost-free, bright location until temperatures moderate. Once acclimatised, it can return outside, where it will resume its natural cycle.
With its vivid silver-blue needles, long lifespan, and festive versatility, Picea pungens "Super Blue" is more than just a Christmas tree – it’s a year-round feature plant that grows with you over the years. Ideal for anyone seeking a living alternative to cut trees, with beauty indoors during the holidays
