Spathiphyllum ‘Korto’ is a smaller-growing hybrid that combines rich, glossy dark leaves with a profusion of elegant white spathes. Its compact habit and reliable flowering make it an excellent choice for homes or offices where space is limited but a bold display is still desired.
Unlike taller peace lily hybrids, ‘Korto’ maintains a neat, manageable size, often forming dense clumps with upright leaves. The foliage is darker and glossier than many standard cultivars, creating a striking backdrop for its bright, long-lasting flowers. Its strong blooming tendency ensures more frequent displays of the classic peace lily spathes.
The genus name Spathiphyllum derives from Greek spathē (“sword”) and phyllon (“leaf”), describing the sword-like spathes that surround its flowers. The species most commonly associated with cultivated hybrids, Spathiphyllum wallisii, was named after German plant collector Gustav Wallis (1830 – 1878), who introduced hundreds of tropical species to Europe. ‘Korto’ is a modern hybrid selected for compact growth and floriferous character.
Like other peace lilies, ‘Korto’ contains calcium oxalate and should be kept away from pets and children. Its smaller size and abundant blooms make it especially suitable for desktops, tabletops, or any setting where space is limited but ornamental impact is important.
The genus Spathiphyllum combines Greek spathē (“sword”) and phyllon (“leaf”), referring to the floral spathe. The species epithet wallisii honours Gustav Wallis, who introduced many tropical plants to European horticulture. The cultivar name ‘Korto’ reflects its compact proportions.
Want a peace lily that’s compact yet rich in blooms? Order Spathiphyllum ‘Korto’ today and enjoy a glossy, dark-leaved plant that flowers generously year-round.
