Caring for Spathiphyllum 'Korto'

• Water: Check the mix with a finger and by pot weight. Water when the surface has begun to dry while the deeper root ball still feels slightly moist, then let the container drain completely.
• Light: Medium to bright indirect light supports steady growth and gives it the best chance of reblooming. Avoid direct midday or afternoon sun.
• Humidity: Average household humidity is usually fine, but moderate to high humidity reduces the chance of dry brown tips.
• Temperature: Keep it warm and stable indoors. Avoid cold windows, draughts and sudden temperature changes.
• Potting mix: Choose an airy mix that stays lightly moist and drains freely. Good drainage is especially important if the plant sits inside a decorative outer pot.
• Feeding: Use a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser about once a month while the plant is growing. Follow the label, using a lighter dose if the plant is small.
• Repotting: Keep this compact plant in a snug container and repot one size up once roots are crowded, especially if they circle the inside of the pot or start pushing the plant upward.
• Flowering: Periods between flowers are normal. Focus on healthy new leaves and enough indirect light to support the next round of flowering.
• Grooming: Remove spent flower stems and fully yellow leaves at the base with clean scissors so the centre of the clump stays open and easy to inspect.

Common problems with Spathiphyllum 'Korto'

• Leaves suddenly wilt: The mix in a small pot can dry quickly. If the mix is dry, soak the root ball thoroughly and drain it; if it is still wet, do not add more water until you have checked the roots.
• Leaves yellow near the centre: Closely packed foliage can hide potting mix that is staying very wet. Empty water from outer pots, improve drainage and allow the upper mix to begin drying. The yellow-leaf guide can help separate watering stress from normal leaf ageing.
• Brown leaf tips spread: Look for repeated drying, very dry air or salt build-up from hard water and fertiliser. Correct the cause, then trim only dead brown tissue if its appearance bothers you.
• The base softens or roots smell sour: This is a rot warning. Remove affected roots with clean, disinfected tools, discard the rotten material and repot into fresh airy mix in a clean pot. See the root-rot guide.
• Flowers or new leaves show fine scarring: Check for thrips and mites, and inspect leaf joints for mealybugs. Isolate a confirmed infestation, clean off visible pests and repeat a treatment labelled for the identified pest at the interval stated on the label.
