• Support: Give the vine a rigid pole, plank or bark slab while the stem is still easy to position. Tie firm stem sections loosely and keep new leaves free.
• Light: Bright indirect light suits the plant. Introduce direct sun gradually because fresh foliage can mark after a sudden increase.
• Watering: Water when the pot feels lighter and the mix has partly dried. Wet the mix evenly, let excess water drain and check below the surface before watering again.
• Potting mix and repotting: Use a coarse mix that keeps its structure in a pot close to the current root size. Move up one pot size when roots pack the pot, the plant starts needing water unusually often or the support starts to wobble.
• Warmth and humidity: Keep the plant warm and protect the leaves from cold glass. Normal household humidity is usually suitable; extra humidity can help large leaves unfold in very dry air.

Rhaphidophora foraminifera belongs to the aroid family Araceae. Adolf Engler first published the species in 1898 as Epipremnum foraminiferum, then transferred it to Rhaphidophora in 1908. Its accepted scientific name is Rhaphidophora foraminifera (Engl.) Engl.

The genus name Rhaphidophora comes from Greek words meaning “needle” and “I bear”, referring to specialised needle-like cells found in the plant’s tissues. Foraminifera means “hole-bearing”, matching the characteristic perforations that can develop in the leaves.
