Pilea spruceana 'Norfolk' is a compact textured Pilea with dark reddish-green leaves and broad grey-silver markings. The leaves are puckered, veined and scalloped, giving the plant a dense, textured surface.
Its small clumping growth can be kept in warm, humid indoor conditions where bright indirect light and steady moisture remain consistent. The foliage keeps its darker colour and silver markings more evenly when the plant is kept out of direct sun and protected from hard drying.
Pilea spruceana 'Norfolk' grows as a small clumping plant, with textured leaves held close enough together to create a dense mound. The darker foliage and silver markings are clearest in bright indirect light, away from harsh sun.
Higher humidity can keep the leaf edges from drying, but the roots still need oxygen. A light, airy mix is safer than a dense substrate that holds water tightly around the stems.
Pilea are generally considered non-toxic houseplants. Chewing can still cause mild stomach irritation, so keep the plant away from pets that bite leaves.
Pilea spruceana was described by Hugh Algernon Weddell in 1869. The epithet spruceana honours the botanist Richard Spruce.
