Philodendron 'Calkins Gold' has elongated green leaves broken by lime, yellow and golden marbling. New leaves can open especially bright, then deepen as the blade firms up.
The stems grow in a scandent, loosely climbing way, with nodes that can produce aerial roots when they meet a textured surface. A pole, plank or trellis can be added as the stems lengthen, while pruning above nodes encourages new growth from lower points.
Philodendron 'Calkins Gold' grows from node-bearing stems with aerial roots and elongated patterned leaves. As the plant extends, older leaves may become greener while newer leaves show stronger yellow and lime tones.
Dense wet mix can damage roots, while dry pockets, harsh sun or pests often show as stalled stems, smaller leaves or brown marks on yellow tissue.
Philodendron 'Calkins Gold' is toxic if ingested. Like other Philodendron plants, it contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth, lips and throat. Keep it away from pets and small children, and wash hands after pruning or handling cut sap.
Philodendron belongs to the Araceae family. The genus name comes from Greek roots meaning “tree-loving”, a reference to the climbing or tree-associated growth seen in many Philodendron.
