Peperomia caperata 'Napoli Nights' is a hybrid created in 2014 by breeder Obed Jacob Smit for the Eden Collection, combining Peperomia marmorata and Peperomia peruviana. Compact in size and refined in appearance, this variety has short stems that hold heart-shaped leaves with a distinctive metallic look. The upper surface shows a grey-green shimmer, while the undersides glow in pink-red tones, giving the plant a unique dual-color effect.
This cultivar grows low and bushy, reaching about 12 – 15 cm in height. The leaves are deeply ridged, adding texture and shadow that enhance the metallic coloration. Its compact habit makes it ideal for tabletops, shelves, or small containers, while the two-tone foliage ensures it stands out even in mixed displays.
'Napoli Nights' is a relatively new addition to the ornamental plant trade, developed by Dutch breeder Obed Jacob Smit and introduced through the Eden Collection in 2014. It combines the ornamental qualities of Peperomia marmorata and Peperomia peruviana, resulting in a plant that is both easy to grow and visually striking.
Overwatering is the main cause of issues, often leading to root rot or wilted stems. In very low light, leaf color may fade. Curling or crispy edges often signal underwatering or very dry air.
This hybrid remains compact and rarely needs repotting. Its dramatic leaf coloration makes it a focal plant, even in small spaces. Pairing it with lighter-leaved species enhances the contrast.
The genus name Peperomia was established by Spanish botanists Hipólito Ruiz López and José Antonio Pavón Jiménez in 1794, following their expeditions in Peru and Chile. The name derives from Greek peperi (“pepper”) and homoios (“resembling”), referring to the plant’s relationship to black pepper (Piper nigrum).
With its shimmering grey-green leaves and pink-red undersides, Peperomia caperata 'Napoli Nights' is a compact hybrid that adds drama and elegance to any collection. Order now and enjoy this easy-care yet striking houseplant.
