Microchilus argenteus is a small terrestrial orchid from tropical South America. Elliptic to lance-shaped leaves gather near the ends of short creeping growth and may show pale grey to silver venation against a darker green surface.
New leaves unfold narrow and soft before broadening into the low foliage layer. The creeping stem roots at its nodes and produces additional upright shoots, allowing an established plant to spread across the forest-floor surface. A slender terminal flower spike carries many small, relatively inconspicuous orchid flowers above the leaves. Foliage pattern varies from fine pale veins to broader grey-silver markings on the mature leaves.
