Lavandula angustifolia 'Edelweiss' is an English lavender with creamy white flower spikes and the same clean, aromatic foliage and dry-soil preference as the classic purple forms. White flowers read especially sharp against gravel, stone, and darker foliage, and the plant keeps a compact, rounded shrub shape when grown in sun. Mature plants often sit around 40 to 60 cm tall and wide, depending on pruning and site.
Good lavender is mostly about keeping the crown dry and the roots oxygenated. A bright position and a freely draining mix produce firm, tidy growth. Damp, heavy soil produces soft stems, patchy dieback, and short-lived plants.
Plant slightly high so rainwater runs away from the woody base. In heavy beds, improving drainage with mineral grit and raising the planting spot is often the difference between survival and crown rot. Keep organic mulch light and back from stems; a gravel top-dress can be a better fit around lavender because it keeps the neck dry.
Trim lightly after flowering to keep plants rounded and stop the centre opening up. In spring, remove dead tips and tidy the outline. Cutting back into old, leafless wood - lavender often struggles to reshoot from bare stems often shows up as poor vigour the following season.
In pots, 'Edelweiss' stays compact and easy to place near seating or paths where the scent is noticed. Choose a container with generous drainage and a mineral-lean mix. Water thoroughly, drain completely, then allow the top layer to dry. In winter, keep pots out of constant rain or at least ensure they never sit in water.
