Hoya sp. Papua 004

Origin and identity of Hoya sp. Papua 004

Hoya sp. Papua 004 comes from Papua in Indonesian western New Guinea. Its species identity and precise collection locality within Papua are still uncertain.

Care for Hoya sp. Papua 004

Bright softened light supports close branching and glossy leaves. Water after the top dries and the container becomes lighter, before the small foliage remains without moisture for an extended period.

Give the plant consistent warmth and avoid sharp changes between day and night. Use about 50–60% as an indoor humidity guide. Keep a mild current of air around new leaves, during routine care.

Let side shoots spill over the pot or direct the leading stem around a narrow hoop. Remove dead tips at firm tissue and use dilute complete fertiliser during steady vine growth.

Grow this fine-stemmed Hoya in a compact pot filled with small bark and coarse mineral material. The mix should wet evenly, drain promptly and remain airy afterwards.

Move to a slightly larger pot when the roots have filled the container and need more space. If the growing mix compacts or drains more slowly while the roots still fit, replace the mix in a container that still fits the root ball.

Temperature: Use 16–24 °C as the normal growing range; protect it from sustained temperatures below 10 °C.

Root a healthy section of Hoya sp. Papua 004 stem with at least one node, keeping the cutting warm through the rooting stage.

Root, stem and leaf problems in Hoya sp. Papua 004

A fine growing tip stops

A dry pocket, damaged roots or bruising can halt the fine tip before its next glossy leaf opens. Stabilise the root zone first. Fine webbing around the small leaves indicates mites and requires separate treatment. Trim only tissue that has become dry and lifeless.

A tie pinches the stem

Replace a narrow tie with a broad soft one and support the marked section without bending it further.

Glossy leaves wrinkle over damp mix

Inspect the roots before adding water. Remove black or soft tissue and restart the firm roots in fresh open substrate if decline continues.

Hoya sp. Papua 004 is non-toxic to people and pets
